What to expect after donating blood?
Medically reviewed on February 1, 2026.
Thank you for choosing to make a lifesaving difference! Most donors feel well after giving blood. Each donation is about one pint (500mL), while the average adult has about 10-12 pints of blood.
Your body works quickly to replace what you’ve given. The plasma (the liquid part of your blood) is replaced within 2-3 days, and your red blood cells begin replenishing right away and are typically fully restored in about 4-6 weeks.
