Donors may donate while on their menstrual cycle. Both menstruation and blood donation can temporarily lower hemoglobin levels, so the decision to donate should be individualized. Those who experience heavy menstrual bleeding or have a history of anemia, should consult with their healthcare provider before donating. In most cases, it is safe to donate while menstruating.
