Blood Donation Process

  • Registration
    • You will be required to give your name, address and a valid photo ID, such as your driver’s license or school ID. Don’t forget your valid photo ID!
  • Screening
    • This is the part where a phlebotomist checks your temperature, blood pressure, pulse and blood count. You’ll also answer questions about your medical history to make sure giving blood is safe for you and your blood will be safe to give to patients.
  • Donation
    • A phlebotomist draws your blood using a brand new, sterile needle. The actual whole blood draw normally takes less than ten minutes (automated donation may vary).  Once the draw is complete, the needle will be removed and you will be asked to apply pressure to the area.
  • Canteen
    • Eating and drinking is important before and after giving blood. We have all kinds of snacks and beverages. Take at least 15 minutes to relax and read the post-donation instructions. They were written with your health and safety in mind.
