For a hefty amount of people the major concern regarding giving blood is the aftermath. The question haunting you the entire morning before you are supposed to donate is, “how am I going to feel after a pint of blood has been withdrawn from my body?” Have no fear lone ranger, you and your anxiety are not alone!
Most people feel completely fine after giving blood. Whew, now was that a relief or what? At Carter BloodCare the entire process of donating takes about an hour. However, the actual withdraw process usually only takes ten minutes. You can be on Facebook for ten minutes and not even realize the time has past and that is exactly what will happen when you give blood, time will fly right by. Your body is constantly generating new blood and the blood you donate will be replaced within hours. Relax, you won’t be a pint short for very long.
How you feel after your blood is withdrawn depends on your preparation pre and post donating. Sure, you can skip the recommended steps of munching on snacks and sipping on juices before and after to help replenish the lost fluids and you might feel fine. However, we DO NOT suggest this! To ensure you are in the clear, we recommend drinking lots of water and fluids before and after.
This advice may seem like a no brainer, but if you have a hazardous or strenuous job it is recommended that you give blood at the end of your work shift so you aren’t lifting heavy packages and start to feel woozy.
After you give blood you should feel just fine! Scarf down the cookies provided and sip on a Gatorade and you should be in the clear.
