The beginning of fall means a lot of things. It’s the start of the school year, cooler weather, shorter days, and the beginning of holiday season. Although fall is great for the blood industry (thank you, Halloween!), winter holidays tend to make it tough for us to get enough donors.
We see a lot of donors in September and October, and we credit this to vampires and other monsters who do their part to spread awareness for blood and its importance. However, once people start shopping for their Thanksgiving turkey, they tend to stop lining up to give blood. It is important for us to see donors every day to support a steady supply and make sure hospitals have enough blood on the shelves.
Each year, the holidays remind us to give to others. However, those messages are often about donating food, gifts or money to certain causes. To patients in need, however, blood may be the best gift they could receive. Depending on the type of donation, you may be eligible to give within two months of each other. This means you could give in October, and still be able to give for the holidays in December.
This fall, we want to challenge our donors to give for the holidays by scheduling their fall AND winter donations, so we can make sure the patients in our community have access to the blood products they need. And booking your appointments is easy using one of our easy scheduling options below:
