Carter BloodCare offers later hours for donations at six DFW-area centers

Adjusted hours address donor convenience amid urgent need for lifesaving platelets

BEDFORD, TEXAS – Feb. 6, 2023 – To continue meeting an increased need for platelets, six Carter BloodCare donor centers in North Texas have updated their hours of operation.

On one designated day each week, the following Carter BloodCare donor centers will be open during these adjusted hours:

11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesdays:
Garland Donor Center: 6850 North Shiloh Road, Ste. V, Garland
Hulen Donor Center: 4995 S. Hulen St., Fort Worth

11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesdays:
Mansfield Donor Center: 920 US Hwy 287 N, Ste. 210, Mansfield
Preston Valley Donor Center: 12829 Preston Rd., Ste. 427, Dallas

11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Thursdays:
Frisco Donor Center: 4350 W. Main St., Ste. 105, Frisco
Keller Donor Center: 101 Town Center Lane, Keller

These centers will keep regular hours of operation during the remainder of each week.

This shift addresses the urgency for platelets to help local patients in need of transfusions. Platelets are blood components that play a pivotal role in blood clotting. They are necessary for heart surgery and organ transplant patients, people undergoing cancer treatments, and those with massive bleeding injuries and severe trauma.

Unlike whole blood, which can be donated every 56 days, platelets can be donated every two weeks, up to 24 times in 12 months.

Carter BloodCare’s updated once-a-week hours at these locations also provide a frequently requested solution for donors who were unable to give platelets during their 9-to-5 workdays.

“These six sites were strategically chosen to present platelet donors with convenient donation locations across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex,” said Brandye Norman, Carter BloodCare’s Director of Donor Service Collections Operations. “Donors can easily find a nearby Carter BloodCare location that accommodates their work schedules and commitment to helping neighbors in need of transfusions.”

As a thank-you for giving, through Feb. 28, each Carter BloodCare donor will receive a new quarter-zip pullover. This special incentive is available in sizes M – 3XL, while supplies last.

In addition, Carter BloodCare’s Gold Standard Platelet Program offers platelet donors the opportunity to earn up to a $100 e-gift card each quarter in 2023. Details are available at CarterBloodCare.org.
