Nonprofit organizations unite to support Texas patients in need of lifesaving blood
Carter BloodCare and Texoma Regional Blood Center have united, expanding the reach of their vital services to help Texans in need of lifesaving blood.
The development strategically unites the two centers as one organization. As part of Carter BloodCare, Texoma Regional Blood Center’s services continue uninterrupted in Sherman, Texas and throughout Grayson, Fannin and Cooke counties.
“Carter BloodCare and Texoma Regional Blood Center have a strong, long-standing partnership and have always shared a mission to save lives by making transfusion happen. We are excited for our mission to grow even stronger,” said Carter BloodCare Chief Operating Officer B.J. Smith. “As our North Texas region becomes home to one of the fastest growing populations in the United States, we also must grow to meet increasing health needs of our communities.”
Carter BloodCare collects blood and blood components across 59 counties in North, Central and East Texas to support more than 225 hospitals and medical facilities. The Texas-based nonprofit’s services include blood collection, processing, testing, storage and distribution, along with specialties in apheresis and cellular therapy.
“For 50 years, Texoma Regional Blood Center has embodied excellence in transfusion medicine and related activities, and our commitment becomes stronger and bolder as we unite with Carter BloodCare,” said Executive Director Stacy Braddock. “Patients in Grayson, Fannin and Cooke counties can count on our volunteer donors and experienced team to ensure blood is available when and where it is needed.”
Combined resources include 27 neighborhood donor centers, 25 – 30 mobile blood drives each day, and a fleet of more than 110 donor buses and distribution vehicles.
Carter BloodCare employs more than 1,000 people and offers career opportunities across its service area.
“We are dedicated to retaining and growing the talents, skills and expertise of our employees,” said Smith. “We’re fortunate to have those talents in place and look forward to others joining us in our lifesaving work.”
Carter BloodCare directors note they must see 1,600 donors daily to keep pace with the health demands of Texas’ rapidly growing population.
