World Blood Donor Day on June 14 marks global focus on universal need for blood

The demand for blood is nonstop for emergencies and daily medical procedures, Carter BloodCare says

BEDFORD, Texas (June 7, 2022) – Events locally and globally have highlighted the lifesaving need for blood donations.

Carter BloodCare joins blood centers around the world in observing World Blood Donor Day 2022 on Tuesday, June 14. The event raises awareness of the urgency of consistent donations to maintain an available community blood supply.

When emergencies happen, the need for blood is critical. The availability of blood on-hand at local blood centers can genuinely make a lifesaving difference.

In addition to emergencies, blood must be available for medical procedures that take place every day. These include treatments for people injured in major accidents, those receiving cancer treatments, mothers experiencing blood loss during labor, older adults with health issues, children with anemia, and others.

Summer is a crucial time for the local blood supply. Blood donations typically drop as students go on break – high school drives account for 25% of the community blood supply – and families focus on vacations.

$2,500 in gas cards will be awarded to one Carter BloodCare donor

As a thank-you incentive this month, Carter BloodCare donors who present to give whole blood, double red cells, platelets or plasma on Mondays or Tuesdays through June 30 will each receive a $25 Visa gas card.

Plus, all Carter BloodCare donors who give on any day in June are entered in a grand prize drawing to win $2,500 in Visa gas cards.
