Waxahachie’s Kirk Hunter named to National Blood Donation Hall of Fame
Texan is 1 of 12 recognized nationwide for advocacy on behalf of transfusion patients
BEDFORD, TEXAS (Nov. 9, 2023) – Waxahachie resident Kirk Hunter is a new inductee into Fresenius Kabi’s 2023 National Blood Donation Hall of Fame.
He was honored Thursday, Nov. 9, at an induction ceremony and trophy presentation at Carter BloodCare’s North Texas headquarters in Bedford.
Fresenius Kabi accepts Hall of Fame nominations from blood centers across the United States each year, recognizing the stories of those who are passionate about and committed to blood donation. This marks the 25th year of the program.
Carter BloodCare nominated Hunter in recognition of his outstanding dedication in raising awareness and inspiring Texans to save lives by donating blood.
National honor for donation advocacy and outreach
Hunter received numerous blood and platelet transfusions while battling an aggressive form of lymphoma. Throughout 2023, he advocated for blood donation by sharing his story in person and via video with thousands of people, motivating more Texans to become donors.
He is among 12 inductees, chosen from more than 200 nominations nationwide.

Texas-based Carter BloodCare noted 25% of the community blood supply helps people receiving cancer treatments. Cancer surgery can require red blood cells and platelets to replenish blood loss and support clotting. Also, chemotherapy can lead to low blood-cell counts.
Donors help local patients
Carter BloodCare currently needs all blood types, with O negative and platelets often at critical levels.
As the universal blood type, O negative can treat any patient, including premature and unborn babies.
Platelets are vital to slow or prevent bleeding and infections.
