Carter BloodCare drive supports lifesaving blood resources for Ukraine

April 8-10 donations benefit both Texans and Ukrainians in need through blood and financial contributions

BEDFORD, Texas – Through one simple act of kindness this month, Texans can take two steps with lifesaving importance for local transfusion patients and the people of Ukraine.

To support the need for blood resources in Ukraine, Carter BloodCare will contribute $15 for each person who donates blood, platelets or plasma April 8-10. Financial contributions will be used to purchase critical blood supplies for Ukraine. This humanitarian initiative is supported by blood centers across the United States, in cooperation with Blood Centers of America (BCA).

Carter BloodCare officials noted that Ukrainian hospitals, blood centers and warehouses storing blood collection supplies have been damaged or destroyed due to intense artillery shelling.

“Our employees and donors have asked for ways to help the people of Ukraine, and we are grateful for this opportunity to support those in need on a global scale,” said Veronica Moore, Carter BloodCare’s Vice President of Organizational Relations. “We urge all eligible donors to show what Texans can do when we step up together to help others in times of crisis.”

Blood, platelets and plasma donated locally with Carter BloodCare are used to help patients across North, Central and East Texas. These include accident and severe trauma patients, children with anemia, older adults with age-related health issues, people undergoing cancer treatments, transplant and surgical patients, mothers experiencing difficult childbirths, and many others in need.

Donors can schedule an appointment at their nearest Carter BloodCare donor center or mobile blood drive by visiting CarterBloodCare.org, or by calling or texting 800-366-2834. Blood donation typically takes only an hour; to save time before arriving on the day of donation, donors can complete their medical history questionnaire online.
