Donating blood in North Dallas at Preston Valley

Throughout 2024, we’re featuring each of our donor centers and what makes them unique. In September, we’re featuring our Preston Valley Donor Center.

Located off Interstate 635 at Preston Road and near Dallas Parkway, the Preston Valley Donor Center serves one of the state’s most densely populated areas. It gives staff members the chance to interact with donors from many backgrounds because Preston Valley is located near where Addison, Richardson and neighborhoods of North Dallas intersect.

A friendly staff with a mind toward customer service is an important factor in the success of the Preston Valley Donor Center because the staff has a chance to serve a large population. According to Site Supervisor Laura Hernandez, the staff are not only customer service experts, but many donors return the favor.

“We have quite a bit of donors that are regulars,” Henandez said. “David A. always brings us food, whether it’s donuts or Chick-fil-A. Nathan N. is a young platelet donor who brings us pastries from the bakery next door. We like to work on puzzles as a staff and Cary M. has gifted us more puzzles.”

The center is a family affair, and it doesn’t stop with a tight-knit staff and dedicated donors who appreciate the staff. Some families come to donate in honor of others. Parents James and Linda L. donate whole blood and their son Paul L. donates platelets. Paul needed several gallons of platelets at birth, and it wasn’t guaranteed he would survive. Now, Paul is a healthy adult who has donated nearly 25 gallons of platelets. James, Linda and Paul donate so kids have a chance to receive the same type of lifesaving care Paul received.

Though it isn’t unique to Carter BloodCare donor centers, Preston Valley has a staff that turns first-time donors into long-time donors. “A lot of our donors mention to us that they continue to come back to donate because they have a pleasant experience with us,” Hernandez said.
