Donating blood in Denton

Throughout 2024, we’re featuring each of our donor centers and what makes them unique. In August, we’re featuring our Denton Donor Center.

The Denton Donor Center is one of Carter BloodCare’s longest-running donor centers. It is also the northernmost donor center, and it serves donors north and west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, including some donors who make the drive from southern Oklahoma.

Part of what makes the center a successful one is how the staff interacts with donors and with each other. Site Supervisor Katherine Moore thinks the team chemistry is why the center sees so many regular donors, including ones willing to make the drive from Oklahoma to donate blood.

“The staff here all possess differing personalities,” Moore said, “which brings a lively energy to each workday and brightens our center. We connect with our donors and place an emphasis on being caring and helpful.”

The passion of the staff is matched by the community they serve. Moore says many donors donate to honor loved ones who have needed blood transfusions. This includes regular donor Hugh C., who donates platelets in honor of a family member who had cancer.

Moore also mentioned that other donors donate simply for the better good of the community. Many donors at the Denton Donor Center feel a great sense of social responsibility, a hallmark trait of tight-knit communities. These donors, like the staff, bring different personalities that help shape the center’s culture.

“For example, Richard G., he’s a veteran and he always has interesting stories to tell us,” Moore said. Another donor recently made his first triple platelet donation and had cookies delivered to the center later that day. Barbara G. donates in honor of a family member.”

The culture of the center, featuring a welcoming atmosphere amongst the center’s staff and its donors, is the main reason donors are willing to drive from Decatur, Valley View and beyond to donate blood.
