Donate blood to support Texas mothers and newborns
In honor of Mother’s Day, Carter BloodCare urges Texans to lend an arm to help maternity and pediatric patients
Blood donors are vital to the well-being of mothers who experience complications during childbirth.
In honor of Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 11, Carter BloodCare urges Texans to donate blood, platelets and plasma to support mothers and their newborn children.
Did you know?
- Transfusions are needed in one out of every 83 U.S. infant deliveries.
- On average, U.S. pediatric patients use 1,800 units of blood every day and 652,000 units of blood every year.
- The rate of transfusions needed in childbirth has increased by 54% in recent years.
- O negative is the only blood type used to treat premature and unborn babies.

North Texas mom Laura went through a terrifying post-delivery blood loss, when doctors discovered a large blood clot in her uterus.
Laura recalled that at one point during her emergency treatment, “I looked over to a nurse and asked, ‘Am I going to die?’”
Ultimately, Laura required 60 lifesaving units of blood and plasma.

Megan, a Texas mother of four, also needed transfusions after the births of her daughters.
“I wouldn’t have made it home to be with my children if it wasn’t for blood donors,” Megan said. “I am healthy and I have recovered because of the blood donations I received. Now I see the importance of blood donation and how it saves people’s lives.”
For Laura, Megan and so many mothers and moms-to-be, Texas blood donors are lifesavers.
Eligible donors can give at their nearby Carter BloodCare donor centers or mobile blood drive. To schedule an appointment to save lives, call Carter BloodCare at 800-366-2834 or visit CarterBloodCare.org.
As a special thank-you, each Carter BloodCare donor in May and June will receive the 2025 edition beach towel, while supplies last.
