Donating blood in Frisco

Throughout 2024, we’re featuring each of our donor centers and what makes them unique. In November, we’re featuring our Frisco Donor Center.

The Frisco Donor Center serves one of the fastest-growing suburbs in America. The center is conveniently located off Main Street just west of the Dallas North Tollway in the heart of Frisco and serves a population that grew more than 70% between 2010-2019.

The population boom in North Dallas has been beneficial to the Frisco center. Donors come from neighboring cities, counties and states, according to Site Supervisor Andrew Carlsson, which keeps the staff busy and trying to find new ways to engage donors.

“The far north suburbs grow seemingly every day,” Carlsson said. “Our central location in Collin County is perfect for so many people. Donors from Prosper, Celina and Little Elm come out to donate here. We have donors who come all the way from near the Oklahoma border. There’s a real positive hustle and bustle here all the time.”

Though the center serves a large community, the staff and its donor base are tight-knit and community-oriented. With 12 high schools, the headquarters and practice facility for the Dallas Cowboys, and many Frisco ISD alumni playing college football and in the NFL, some would describe Frisco as a football-crazed community. The staff leans into that to attract donors and build relationships that foster donors becoming regulars.

“We’re open late on Thursdays and have a solid after-work crowd that comes in,” Carlsson said. “Everyone who works here enjoys chatting with all the donors. We’ll put on football games on Thursday nights and Sundays, and we have quite a crowd even when the Cowboys are playing.”

Carlsson even said the center hosted an NFL Draft watch party with several regular platelet donors, including Leslie K. and Lisa S. The staff ordered pizza for the attendees and “everyone had a great time.”

The Frisco Donor Center has many regular donors. Dallas M. and Mike M. are part of a group of regulars who come in every Monday morning to donate platelets, which “brings a great vibe to the center when every week starts off on a great foot.” Carlsson said the center even sees a strong showing from the Frisco Lakes retirement community.

Carlsson also mentioned he and the staff baked a German chocolate cake for a donor who reached 125 gallons donated. The staff’s willingness to bond and accommodate their community makes the center a place donors want to spend time at, which Carlsson sums up in one sentence:

“We pride ourselves as a staff on providing exceptional customer service and we love getting to know our donors.”
