Donating blood in McKinney

Throughout 2024, we’re featuring each of our donor centers and what makes them unique. In October, we’re featuring our McKinney Donor Center.

The McKinney Donor Center is the northeastern-most center, serving more than 200,000 residents of McKinney. Conveniently located directly off US 75 at El Dorado Parkway, the center also serves some of the fastest-growing suburbs in DFW, with Anna and Melissa not far away.

The location of the center, nestled among fast growing suburbs, is a big benefit, according to Site Supervisor Colleen Tanner. Many donors stop by as part of their daily routine. The center is located in an area with plenty of shopping, making it easy for donors to visit during daily errands.

“I would say our location,” Tanner said, when asked what makes the center unique. “Our center has updated, modern aesthetics and we’re located in an area with a lot of shopping and self-care.”

The location and friendly staff bring in plenty of long-time donors. One such donor, Craig S., brings breakfast sandwiches for the staff during his routine platelet donations. If he has to schedule an appointment in the afternoon, Craig brings pizza or cheeseburgers. Tanner says Craig appreciates how well the staff takes care of him and engages him during each donation, so he brings them food as a thank-you. This is a great example of the culture Tanner believes the center thrives on.

“At our donor center, we’re committed to excellent customer service and being informative for our donors,” Tanner said. “We have long-time whole blood donors and platelet donors. They’re very consistent and dedicated to the goal of saving lives.”
