Oak Cliff mural illustrates importance of blood donations in Hispanic and Latino communities

Carter BloodCare and Dallas Latino Arts Project partner on artwork reveal

On Saturday, April 6, Carter BloodCare and Dallas Latino Arts Project partnered to unveil a bold and colorful outdoor mural in Dallas’ Oak Cliff neighborhood.

Created by local artist Jesus Alba, the vibrant artwork – titled Donando Esperanza (Donate Hope) – illustrates the importance of blood donations in the Hispanic and Latino communities.

The project also coincides with National Minority Health Month in April. The month-long initiative raises awareness to improve health services across cultural and community connections.

The mural is located at 436 Jefferson Blvd. in Dallas, on the southeast corner of Jefferson Boulevard and South Adams Avenue.

Before the unveiling, a reception was held at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center.

Officials from Carter BloodCare – including President and CEO Dr. Merlyn Sayers (pictured, left) and Chief Administrative Officer Veronica Moore – shared remarks on the importance of community involvement to help local patients, noting, “The community is stronger when we unite to support one another. Whether it’s visually telling stories to motivate and inspire, or donating resources to help others, this project illustrates that we are better and stronger when we all unite as neighbors helping neighbors.”

Carter BloodCare supports the vision of Jorge Baldor, the founder of Dallas Latino Arts Project. Since 2019, Jorge and his team have made it their mission to promote a greater understanding of Latino art, history and culture through exhibitions and community programs.

Dallas Latino Arts Project brings meaningful and unique art experiences to both traditional and innovative spaces. This outdoor mural symbolizes their mission and provides people of all ages with access to incredible art.

Carter BloodCare is committed to ensuring local patients have access to safe and readily available transfusions through the collection, processing, testing and distribution of lifesaving blood components. This is only possible through the dedication of volunteer donors who lend an arm to help others.
