Set a life-changing resolution you can keep in 2023

Give for Texans to turn your New Year’s resolution into a positive, lifesaving habit

Looking ahead to the new year is an opportunity to make a life-changing difference in 2023.

Donating blood is a realistic resolution that’s healthy, beneficial to neighbors in need, and easy to keep.

It takes only an hour to donate whole blood with Carter BloodCare. Since whole blood can be donated every 56 days, that’s just one out of 1,344 hours during that period. Those 60 minutes are time well-spent for patients in urgent and critical care throughout our Lone Star communities.

Here are Carter BloodCare’s five tips for keeping your resolution to Give for Texans in 2023:

  1. Set a specific goal
Instead of saying “I will donate blood in 2023,” create a measurable goal, such as “I will donate blood four times in 2023” or “I will donate platelets six times in 2023.” You can easily track your progress by logging in to your Carter BloodCare donor page for completed donation dates and upcoming appointments to give.
  2. Ask yourself a truly lifesaving question
Have you heard that a pint of donated whole blood can save up to three lives? That’s possible because each unit of whole blood can be separated into three lifesaving components: red blood cells, platelets and plasma. Each time you donate, you personally have a life-affirming effect on three Texas patients in need of transfusions. The more consistently you donate, the more people you help year-round. Ask yourself this question: “How many lives will I save in 2023?”
  3. Picture the people you’re helping
The need for blood is nonstop, 24/7. Every two seconds, someone in the United States requires a transfusion. Blood, platelets and plasma are needed around the clock for people involved in major vehicle accidents, severe trauma patients, mothers experiencing blood loss during difficult childbirths, people undergoing cancer treatments, organ transplant and open-heart surgery patients, children with anemia, patients with life-threatening burns, older adults with age-related health issues, and many others. See the stories of transfusion recipients on Carter BloodCare’s Give for Texans webpage.
  4. Use your support network
Stay motivated by letting friends and family members provide support. This also works both ways: get friends and family to join you in donating; then, you’re each able to hold one another accountable and on track to success.
  5. Reward yourself
When you give, you also receive: Each time you donate with Carter BloodCare, you earn points to redeem for Dedicated Donor Rewards. These rewards can include T-shirts, drink tumblers, e-gift cards to major retailers, and more. Also, incentives are available at the time of donation; donor gifts planned for 2023 include shirts, e-gift cards, pullovers, cooler bags, insulated water bottles, beach towels, branded socks and fleece blankets.

Resolve to start the new year on a positive note by consistently donating blood with Carter BloodCare in 2023.
