Donating blood in Arlington

Throughout 2024, we’re featuring each of our donor centers and what makes them unique. In July, we’re featuring our Arlington Donor Center.

Conveniently located on Little Road off Interstate 20 and Highway 287, the Arlington Donor Center serves the third-largest city in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, making it one of the most strategically placed donor centers to maximize blood donation in DFW.

According to Site Supervisor Michaela Martinez, the staff also maximizes donation potential with diversity and a welcoming presence. The staff makes the donor center what it is.

“We have a diverse staff age-wise; we have someone in almost every age range,” Martinez said. “Our staff range spans over 40 years with at least one person from each generation. We all work together seamlessly, and our donors appreciate they have at least one person to connect with, although they end up making connections with all of us.”

Many donors have formed good relationships with many members of the staff. Martinez said the good majority of platelet donors are longtime regulars. In fact, platelet donor Tim B. books all his Sunday morning platelet donation appointments six months in advance, and he usually brings doughnuts for the staff and tries to convert other donors to platelets. Tim isn’t the only one who likes to bring food for the staff, either.

“Donna S., she is constantly giving us book recommendations,” Martinez said. “She is also very adamant on checking on us and seeing if we need or want anything to eat especially when we have an extra busy day.”

The center is also home to two soon-to-be 100-gallon donors: Andy B. has donated 94 gallons of blood components in his life and Jeffery F. is also getting close to the century milestone. Both have made most of their donations at the Arlington Donor Center.

These loyal donors are heroes for the patients in need of blood transfusions, but they’re also valued members of an important community. The importance the staff at Arlington puts on customer service makes the center a place donors want to keep coming back to.

“We work hard to make sure every donor feels welcome and appreciated,” Martinez said. “Providing the best donor experience is one of our top priorities. Our center along with our donors are truly like one big family.”
