Whataburger and The Dallas Mavericks thank you for giving blood!

By Carter BloodCare | 14 comments | Blood Drive, Covid-19 Antibody testing, Donor Center, Donor Perks, General, Time Sensitive, Uncategorized | 1 January, 2021

What a donor!

The start of the new year has us all looking forward to and preparing for the days ahead. A great way to help the community stay prepared is by giving blood. Dedicated donors keep the blood supply ready and available for patients facing cancer, trauma, and surgeries. What a wonderful way to make a difference in another person’s life!

Our community partners, Whataburger and the Dallas Mavericks, are celebrating blood donors this January with a thank-you voucher for a free Whataburger plus Mavs-branded swag (while supplies last).

Your donation means the world to the patients and their loved ones. Make your appointment online or call/text 800-366-2834.

January is National Blood Donor Month; learn more about the impact that these important donors make in our community and across the nation.

All successful donations will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies. This is NOT a diagnostic test for COVID-19. Click HERE to learn more about COVID-19 antibody testing.

Tips for ensuring a safe donation:

  • Make and keep your appointment. This helps to manage overcrowding and reduce wait times.
  • If you are not feeling healthy and well, please do not give blood.
  • In addition to the current social distancing guidelines provided by FDA and the CDC we will also observe any social distancing guidelines established by our host partners:
    • Donors and staff will be wearing masks.
    • Please remain at least six feet from other donors.
  • Drink plenty of water before and after donating to ensure you are well hydrated and eat a good, healthy meal at least two hours before your donation.
  • Don’t forget your picture ID.
  • Before you arrive on the day of your appointment, fill out your donor questionnaire on your own mobile device/desktop with QuickScreen. This also helps manage overcrowding.
  • Please do not bring children and/or pets to blood drives or donor centers, as they are not allowed into the donation area.

Good morning. I am a previous donor over 6 months ago and would like to donate again. Do you have any donor locations near Uptown Dallas?

    • Carter BloodCare January 25, 2021 at 11:53 pm

Sharon – you must wait 56 days to give if it was whole blood. See below …

Whole blood: 56 days between donations
      Plasma: 28 days between donations
      Platelets: 7 days between donations
Double red cells: 112 days between donations
      CPLAS: 14 days between donations
      Granulocytes: 21 days between donations

How do I know which donation to make? (i.e. platelets, whole blood, red blood)

    • Carter BloodCare January 25, 2021 at 11:52 pm

It depends what type you are the current inventory. When you make an appointment, we can tell you what’s needed!

  • Sharada Krishnagiri January 26, 2021 at 11:17 am

Which type of donation do I sign up for if I have Covid-19 antibodies? Also do I need to donate in January for the Mavs gear?

    • Carter BloodCare February 8, 2021 at 9:15 pm

You can sign up for the plasma donations at donation centers to give convalescent plasma. And we’re sorry for missing your question before January was up!

Your website has the incorrect phone number. should state “800-366-2834) and not require someone to look up Donate on the keypad.

    • Carter BloodCare February 8, 2021 at 8:15 pm

      Thanks for the feedback, Kerry!

  • Gary January 30, 2021 at 10:58 pm

My grandson and I both donated on Jan 28th and did not receive a Whataburger coupon, what’s up with that? It was my main draw in getting him to donate as he loves Whataburger?

    • Carter BloodCare February 8, 2021 at 8:12 pm

Gary – please text us at 800-366-2834 and we’ll get you taken care of.
