{"id":2763,"date":"2021-12-07T14:33:36","date_gmt":"2021-12-07T20:33:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.carterbloodcare.org\/?p=2763"},"modified":"2021-12-07T14:33:36","modified_gmt":"2021-12-07T20:33:36","slug":"donor-center-series-denton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.carterbloodcare.org\/es\/2021\/12\/07\/donor-center-series-denton\/","title":{"rendered":"Donor Center Series: Denton"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>This article is part of a series highlighting each of Carter BloodCare\u2019s donor centers, their teams, and their commitment to serving their communities by fulfilling the mission to save lives by making transfusion possible.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Denton Center Helps Donors Stay in the Loop on the Daily Need for Lifesaving Blood<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Loop 288 &amp; I-35E location is convenient for Denton residents, including students and faculty at UNT and TWU<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Carter BloodCare\u2019s Tammie Mann has a helpful reminder for Denton residents who want to donate blood to save local lives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t have to wait for a mobile blood drive to come to your neighborhood or campus. You have a dedicated donor center right here in town and we\u2019d love to see everyone come here to donate,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As site supervisor for Carter BloodCare\u2019s Denton Donor Center, Mann is eager to welcome visitors to the location directly across from Golden Triangle Mall&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/2215+S+Loop+288,+Denton,+TX+76205\/@33.1883451,-97.1067533,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x864dcb2635508895:0xc96d2a57509592fa!8m2!3d33.1883406!4d-97.1045646\">on Loop 288 near I-35E<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Open since August 2004, the Denton center has six donor beds and two screening booths. On average, Mann and her energetic team \u2013 Phlebotomist 1 Angelica Hernandez, Phlebotomist 1 Jaymee Inman and Phlebotomist 2 Jason Ivey \u2013 see more than 125 donors weekly and more than 500 donors per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have a lot of regular donors who have been coming in since the donor center opened,\u201d said Mann, who has worked with Carter BloodCare for 21 years, including five years at the Denton center. \u201cWith the daily need for blood across our area, especially with the ongoing blood supply shortage, we\u2019d love to see a steady increase day by day and bring in more new donors, in addition to our regulars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considering Denton is home to two prominent universities \u2013 the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unt.edu\/\">University of North Texas<\/a>&nbsp;(UNT) and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twu.edu\/\">Texas Woman\u2019s University<\/a>&nbsp;(TWU) \u2013 it seems natural that education is top of mind as a key strategy for donor outreach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important for us to share the benefits of blood donation and awareness of community needs. It\u2019s about education and customer service, and that starts with us when they come in,\u201d Mann said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With enrollment tallies of more than 40,000 students at UNT and 15,000 at TWU, the pool of potential Denton donors could have a significant, lifesaving effect for area patients in need of transfusions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s a lot of students and we\u2019re so close to both campuses. Our donors come from all over and we do get some from UNT and TWU, but getting the community more aware that we\u2019re here, especially between those two universities, would be a game-changer,\u201d Mann said. \u201cIf we can get them more involved in donating, that would have such a positive impact on our entire community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.carterbloodcare.org\/you-can-help\/donor-guideline-faqs\/\">Donors can begin giving blood<\/a>&nbsp;starting at age 16, with parental consent; those 17 and older can donate blood independently. With that in mind, Mann said it\u2019s also vital to reach out to local teens and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want to educate the high schools around the donor center, too, so the younger generation will come to donate,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s so important for them to see the need for blood donation, and how they can give back to support their community across Denton and North Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fridays and Saturdays tend to be the most active days at the donor center.
