Donating blood in Downtown Fort Worth at Rosedale
Throughout 2024, we’re featuring each of our donor centers and what makes them unique. In September, we’re featuring our Rosedale Donor Center.
The Rosedale Donor Center is located on Rosedale Street in downtown Fort Worth, right between Interstate 30 and Interstate 35-West. In 2023 the donor center was dedicated to Margie B. Peschel, M.D. for her lifetime of achievements in blood banking. As a center that serves a large donor base located in Fort Worth, the 11th-largest city in the United States, the experience and friendliness of the staff is a big benefit.
According to Site Supervisor Ricky Wingham, the experience level and continuity of the staff are a big reason Rosedale is a successful donor center and a reason donors love to donate there. Wingham has been on staff for 17 years, in addition to 25 years of service for Crystal D., 17 years for Tawahna R., 16 years for Jane W., 10 years for Crystal C., eight years for Brittany W., and four years for Jorden C.
“A trustworthy, patterned environment has led to the core of this staff sticking together,” Wingham said. “When you have relationships built on trust and respect, people are willing to be a part of things even through challenges. The success that we’ve had since I’ve been at this center is a direct reflection on this staff and how long we’ve been together.”
The trust the staff has in each other has led to establishing relationships with several long-time donors. In addition, Wingham said many donors tell the staff they decided to donate because someone they knew needed blood transfusions and learned of the importance of donating blood. The staff has turned those donors into committed donors.
“Charles B. and Douglas M. are two of our long-time platelet donors,” Wingham said. “There are plenty of others, too, but Charles and Douglas particularly come to mind. They’re both family men. Charles is dedicated to his church and Douglas often comes in to donate with his wife.”
