Richard Garay will be a senior at James Bowie High School. His family is incredibly proud of him. They are also thankful. Just four years earlier, Richard was in the ICU fighting for his life. Several units of blood were necessary and after a battery of tests, it was determined that he had aplastic anemia. His story of survival involves all kinds of heroes – including blood and platelet donors. Richard sat down and talked with us about his diagnosis, his treatment and his plans for the future. He was also happy to pose for the cover of our fall issue of AboutLife! Catch his story on our high school page, and if you’re a donor, please know his family is grateful!
