Once the first cold front hits and Starbucks® starts selling the #PSL, everyone gets fall fever. And we really can’t blame them. After sweating through the summer, we deserve a break and a chance to have the perfect, Instagram-worthy fall. Although Texas might not seem like a fall wonderland, there are a lot of hidden gems that can get you in the perfect mood for trick-or-treating, boots and apple cider.
One of the prides of our state, the Texas Rose Festival is a celebration of the roses grown in Tyler, TX and the annual crowning of this year’s rose royalty. This is one fall festival you can only find here in Texas.
AUTUMN AT THE ARBORETUM – Dallas, Sept 17 – Nov 23
You’ll be so “oh my gourd” when you see the amazing world the Dallas Arboretum has created this year. This is the epitome of fall, right in the heart of Texas. Bring a picnic and soak in the sights of autumn.
SUPERHERO FALL FESTIVAL – Waco, Oct 29
Channel your inner super hero identity, and come party at the Waco Art Center. This event is free, fun for all ages, and has the potential to answer the age-old question: who would win in a fight, Superman or Batman? Don’t forget your cape and mask!
STATE FAIR OF TEXAS – Dallas, Sept 30 – Oct 23
No fall list is complete without the State Fair of Texas, which is probably the greatest state fair in the country (though we might be biased). Big Tex is already up, waving and welcoming everyone to enjoy the fun. It doesn’t matter what age you are, everyone loves going to the fair.
GIVING BACK AND GIVING THANKS
There’s a reason we call the upcoming holiday “Thanksgiving,” and it’s not just because we are thankful for turkey. This season is meant to remind us to be grateful for what we have and also to give back to those around us. There are hundreds of ways to give back including monetary gifts, volunteering, time, and – yes, of course – blood. Donating blood is an easy way to give back this season. It is completely free, doesn’t take up a lot of time, and impacts people from all walks of life in your community. Whether you give yourself, recruit friends, and/or host a drive, it is a simple way to give so much.
