During the month of August, Carter BloodCare participated in the International Missing Type Campaign to raise awareness across the globe on the importance of giving blood regularly. The campaign kicked off worldwide on August 15 and lasted through the 22.
This was the campaign’s second year, following an impactful first run last year in the United Kingdom. For one week, Carter BloodCare eliminated any As, Bs and Os from all branding and places of high interest, and we encouraged our partners and those hosting blood drives throughout that week to do the same. Additionally, any donors who presented to give blood received a #MissingType T shirt and the opportunity to write their name leaving out the letters As, Bs, and Os on our white boards to show their support via social media.
We were honored to participate in such a historic campaign aimed at creating wide-scale engagement with blood donation and ultimately help save lives. We want to thank each donor and drive coordinator who took time to give life and support their blood types. Carter BloodCare also experienced an actual Missing Type situation that week, as we were below preferred levels for all blood types. In the span of one week, we saw 2,809 donors at our donor centers and 3,168 at our mobile drives, for a total of 5,977 donors.
Each blood type is unique, and patients in the community rely on the generosity of donors with a compatible blood type to step up and give. Campaigns such as the #MissingType give us the chance to reach even more people and spread the message that giving blood regularly is important. Make a habit of giving and schedule your next life-saving donation so your blood type never goes missing.
