Springtime in Texas is all about clear blue skies, 70-degree temperatures and outdoor festivities popping up all over the place. If you’re in need of Spring Break inspiration, here are a few road trip destinations that are well worth the scenic drive.
Stop to Smell the Flower Power at The Dallas Arboretum
Everything really is bigger in Texas, including the largest floral festival in the Southwest. The Dallas Arboretum’s Dallas Blooms features 500,000 bulbs carefully planted over 66 manicured green acres, and this year’s theme is “Peace, Love and Flower Power.” Pack a picnic to enjoy on the lawn, where you can bask in the breeze and the view of the beautiful White Rock Lake.
Check in at the Czech Stop on Highway I-35
For the full Texas road trip experience, stop by Czech Stop, a local institution famous for its sweet and savory stuffed pastries. Don’t roll out without trying the classic blueberry-filled kolache or the jalapeño, sausage and cheese kolache.
Shop Magnolia Market of “Fixer Upper” Fame
If you’re a fan of the HGTV show “Fixer Upper,” you’ll be in hog heaven at Magnolia Market at The Silos in Waco. Part furniture store, part garden, and part food truck smorgasbord, there’s something for every taste!
Zip Through the Treetops
Nothing says spring fling like a zip line tour through the treetops. Get a blast of fresh air on Zip Nac’s Canopy Tour as you follow professional “zippers” on a high-flying, thrill-seeking adventure. Do look down!
Give Blood on the Go
Each year, we see a decrease in blood donation appointments during spring break, but the blood requirements for patients remain the same. Carter BloodCare donor centers are located across North, Central, and East Texas, and some of our centers are increasing their hours this month. Effective March 20, the HEB, Hulen and Rosedale Donor Centers will be open on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as well as extended hours Tuesday – Thursday until 8 p.m. Help us meet the need by making a donation at one of our donor centers!
