Hosting a blood drive is a great way to give back to the community (and, if you’re ineligible to give blood, it is a means of giving back without donating blood). At Carter BloodCare, we have hosted drives at all different kinds of places, including hospitals, schools, churches, parks, events, festivals, and even offices.
Hosting a blood drive at your office can be a great benefit to your community, company culture, and even you. It might sound daunting, but hosting a drive actually takes very little time and provides you with an opportunity to give back while you’re at work.
1. GET PERMISSION
Before you can host a drive, you need to get it approved by your boss (and likely your building manager). Once it is cleared, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will have a representative get in touch with you within 48 hours to start planning.
2. CHOOSE WHEN/WHERE
We aim to schedule blood drives three months in advance so we can ensure everyone has time to sign up and prepare. Once you have contacted us, work with your company to select a date that fits within everyone’s schedules so more people can donate. After you have selected a date, a Carter BloodCare representative will help you scout your office for a location that’s suitable for hosting the blood drive. It is important to determine if you will require one of our donation buses or if the blood drive will take place indoors.
3. SPREAD THE WORD/HAVE FUN
Once your blood drive is set up, we will give you access to our online portal to recruit donors. After people start signing up, you can focus on ways to make your blood drive fun. You can decorate, do a holiday theme, or create a competition between departments. Whatever you do, finding ways to make it more fun will make your fellow coworkers more likely to come and participate!
Getting your company to come together and help others builds a positive mentality and gives everyone the chance to grow closer. By initiating a giving spirit within your office, you will enjoy coming to work and being around your coworkers (trust us, it is possible!).
Not only do we offer recognition events for drive coordinators that go above and beyond, but hosting a blood drive also makes you look good to your bosses. Taking initiative at work is important, and being the person to organize and host an event that brings the office together to give back to the community can only prove to impress. Hosting a blood drive with Carter BloodCare is a win-win for everyone.
