On June 14, blood centers around the world will honor a day dedicated to celebrating the people who selflessly give blood every day. Unsurprisingly, this day is called World Blood Donor Day, and at Carter BloodCare, we want everyone to celebrate one thing that connects us all.
Blood is the life-giving liquid that is in all of us. Giving blood is always life-changing, life-saving and life-enriching. It is a truly selfless act that has the capacity to impact countless lives. Each Carter BloodCare donor is responsible for saving lives and giving hope to people all over the community.
World Blood Donor Day was started by the World Health Organization in 2004 to raise awareness of the need for safe blood products. It’s a day we set aside to say thank you to each donor across the world that has ever given blood, because without them we wouldn’t be able to fulfill our mission. Giving blood is more than an hour-long donation. It’s a decision to do something truly self-effacing that has an immediate and lasting impact on people in the community.
At Carter BloodCare, the summer months are traditionally a time where we have trouble getting enough donors. During this time, people are more active outdoors, making the need for blood rise. However, schools are out of session and therefore not scheduling blood drives, and overall less people are lining up to donate in the summer. In order to meet the need, we need to see at least 1,000 donors each day across North, Central, and East Texas. World Blood Donor Day is a chance to get the message of giving life back into people’s minds so they can help us give life to the community.
