If you have donated blood in the last few months, you have likely been given a letter addressed to you, a blood donor. At Carter BloodCare, we know that each donation gives life to people in the community. However, as a donor, you might not always get to see the end result of your actions. To give you a glimpse of how much your selfless act means to us, we want to feature a letter from someone directly affected by blood donations.
I just wanted to tell you how important you are. A few years ago, my aunt, uncle, and 2 cousins were in a serious car accident.
Traveling home from our family Christmas gathering, they were sideswiped and T-boned by an 18-wheeler. My aunt and uncle had injuries, but the most seriously hurt were my two cousins. My 13-year-old cousin had a ruptured spleen, three broken ribs, and bleeding in his brain. His brother had every bone in his face broken and a collapsed lung. They needed blood and blood components as soon as possible in order to survive.
If there wasn’t enough blood on the shelves for their surgeries, they wouldn’t be here today. They are alive and happy, and that couldn’t have been possible without you. So let me say thank you, thank you, thank you! Without blood donations like yours, there would be a hole in my family and many others.
