Carter BloodCare is guided by the philosophy that community blood donations should benefit community patients, and that blood centers must be responsive to the community that supports them. Carter BloodCare's board of directors is made of local leaders, including medical professionals, hospital administrators, business and civic leaders. Our highest priority is meeting the needs of the community.

Carter BloodCare is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that operates on behalf of patients and their loved ones in 58 Texas counties. Carter BloodCare was formed in 1998 through the merger of BloodCare in Dallas and Carter Blood Center located in Fort Worth. In April of 2007, Carter BloodCare announced a merger with Tyler-based Stewart Regional Blood Center. Carter BloodCare is Texas' largest blood center, providing more than 330,000 units of lifesaving blood components for patients annually.

Our main campus is located on 16.5-acres in Bedford, near DFW Airport. The facility is equipped to store, process, and test all blood components locally before distribution. The testing laboratory, operated by Creative Testing Solutions, is one of the most advanced in the nation.

Carter BloodCare is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks, licensed by the Food and Drug Administration and affiliated with America's Blood Centers.

Carter BloodCare is the primary provider of blood components and transfusion services for approximately 300 Texas health care facilities. These facilities include our region's children's hospitals, central trauma centers, major cancer centers, and transplant centers.

Last year, Carter BloodCare provided more than 300,000 blood components for area patients. Physicians order blood for up to 800 patients each day within Carter BloodCare's service area, and most patients receive more than one transfusion.

Carter BloodCare offers blood donors and patients many convenient donation opportunities at our network of more than two dozen Donor Centers throughout North, Central and East Texas. We also operate an average of 25-30 daily blood drives in the community. To meet the needs of our patients, we must register about 1,100 blood donors each day.

In addition to providing blood components for patients, Carter BloodCare also provides specialized laboratory and patient care services and physician consultation. Carter BloodCare participates in the education of professionals in transfusion medicine and medical technologists specializing in blood banking.
